We label things the way neighbors talk

Our bylaws talk about architectural review. A lot of HOA tools use that same formal language on every screen. When a neighbor wants to paint a garage door or add a fence, they are usually trying to ask the board, "Is this okay?"

Blocbear is built for volunteer boards. We label the product the way I would explain it to someone on our street — not because the legal terms are wrong, but because paying dues or asking a question should not require a glossary.

What you will see in the app

These are real labels in the dashboard right now:

• Exterior Requests — the page where neighbors and the board review paint, fences, and similar projects. The submit form is titled "Make a Change to Your House."
• Courtesy Notices for friendly reminders about neighborhood guidelines.
• My Dues for residents and Dues & Ledger for the board — one ledger for ACH, checks, and Zelle the board logs by hand.
• Meetings & Polls for scheduling board meetings and other neighborhood votes.

Formal terms still belong in the places that need them — banks, state filings, your attorney. For the screens residents and volunteers open every week, we try to keep the tone neighborly. When we add a feature, we read the labels out loud. If we would not say it on the sidewalk, we change it.
